What an Organizational Unit is #

An Organizational Unit represents an organization, company or team that shares availability. It’s the workspace your account lives in: its members can see one another’s availability, schedule on each other’s behalf, and share selection rules, templates and branding.

Each Organizational Unit is separate from every other, and there is no crossover of data between them.

Create an Organizational Unit #

You’re asked to create and name an Organizational Unit when you first sign up, unless you’ve been invited to join an existing one. You can rename it later.

You can create more Organizational Units at any time from your account menu in the Scheduler. Owners and Scheduler Admins can do this.

When to use more than one Organizational Unit #

Separate Organizational Units help with onboarding, managing groups of people, and reporting. Create more than one when you:

  • Schedule for different subsidiaries or brands, each with its own branding.
  • Want teams to have separate scheduling policies, such as recruiting and sales, so they don’t disrupt each other’s workflows.
  • Need to report on one team’s scheduling on its own. Reporting can be filtered by Organizational Unit.
  • Need to keep one team from seeing another’s activity. Each Organizational Unit only shows its own templates and scheduled events, so you can split an account by region or business unit (for example US, EMEA and APAC). Combine this with the Member role, which only sees the events that person scheduled.

Join or leave an Organizational Unit #

You join an Organizational Unit by accepting an email invitation from someone in it. If you don’t have a Cronofy account yet, the invitation lets you create one. If the Organizational Unit has domain sign-up turned on, you’re offered the Organizational Unit to join when you sign up with an email address on that domain.

You can leave an Organizational Unit from its settings. If you’re its only Owner, you can’t leave: give another member the Owner role first, or ask support to off-board the Organizational Unit.

Off-board an Organizational Unit #

Cronofy charges for use, so an Organizational Unit nobody uses doesn’t cost anything. To remove an Organizational Unit completely, contact support.

We can close the Organizational Unit and the requester’s own account, but not the individual accounts of other people.
