Selection rules

What a selection rule is #

A selection rule is a pool of people from your Organizational Unit, and how many of them are needed at an event. It could be one person from a team of sales representatives, or everyone on an interview panel. Selection rules are sometimes called groups.

When you schedule with a selection rule, Cronofy works out the pool’s combined availability, so you don’t have to cross-check everyone’s calendars yourself. You can use one as the host or as attendees, in a template or in a single scheduling request.

Create a selection rule #

Create selection rules from your Organizational Unit’s scheduling settings, or while you’re setting up a template.

  1. Give the rule a name, such as the team or panel it represents.
  2. Add the members of your Organizational Unit who belong in the pool. To add a lot of people at once, contact support.
  3. Set how many of them are required at each event.

The rule can then be used in any template or scheduling request.

How people are picked #

Cronofy picks people round robin. For each time slot, it rotates through the members of the rule who are free, so events are shared fairly between them over time. Nobody is double-booked to keep the rotation even: only people who are free at that time are offered.

Examples #

  • Panel interviews: a rule with everyone eligible to sit on the panel, requiring as many of them as the interview needs.
  • Sharing out calls: a rule of account executives that requires one person, so each booked call goes to whoever is next and free.

The scheduling use cases have more examples.
